Service Description

The Vectorworks Full Day Course is an 8 hours training package that is broken down into three subsections: Fundamentals, Spotlight, and Spotlight Integration. Fundamentals (4hrs): Participants will learn the drawing philosophy around Vectorworks, and the core work flow around the software. Users will learn how to navigate around the Vectorworks interface, such as menu items, view bar, toolbars, palettes. This course also covers document organisation in terms of classes, layers, sheets, viewports, views and document references. Spotlight (2hrs): Participants will learn how to create a lighting plot from scratch, from referencing .dwg or .pdf files commonly provided by venues for accurate reproduction of 3D environments to final deliverables such as lighting plots. For non-designers, this course will teach the anatomy of a lighting plot, and what information can be extracted for use in other departments. Spotlight Integration (2hrs): Participants will start with an existing lighting plot and learn how to organise object information related to Spotlight fixtures, which can eventually be used for integration with Lightwright and export to lighting consoles for patch information. In this course, Lightwright 6 and the grandMA 2 OnPC lighting console will be used for demonstration. Export solutions for ETC EOS family lighting consoles will be touched on briefly. By the end of this course, participants will be expected to achieve the following tasks: >Start a new document in the correct drafting scale settings >Import or reference AutoCAD DWG plots to scale >Execute simple drawing operations in 2D and 3D >Create a Hybrid symbol with metadata attached >Import or reference AutoCAD DWG and PDF venue drawings >Extracting only the relevant information required in these external references >Create a Lighting Device, Lighting Position, and simple stage elements >Document presentation for 2D plan views and 3D perspective >Reading a lighting plan on traditional print, and using Vectorworks Viewer >Preparing an existing Vectorworks document for .xml file export to Lightwright >Setting up Lightwright to properly receive data from Vectorworks >Setting up the MA plugin in Vectorworks >Preparing an existing Vectorworks document for .xml file export to MA console >Setting up the MA console to properly receive data from Vectorworks
